A woman whose body was found dumped on a rural road in Loomis early Thursday morning has been identified as Charsha Rene Smith, 20, of Del Paso Heights, Placer County sheriff's officials confirmed today.
Smith's body was found about 6:30 a.m. Thursday by a woman walking in the area of Boyington Road and King Road, near Interstate 80.
"It appears to have been dumped in the evening hours," sheriff's Lt. Jeff Ausnow said.
The woman who happened upon the body flagged down a motorist, who called deputies, a sheriff's department news release states.
Smith's body did not have obvious signs of trauma indicating the cause of death. Coroner's officials will conduct a forensic autopsy Monday, the release states.
Investigators called in the California Highway Patrol's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) to help interpret and document tire tracks found in the area.
Sheriff's detectives are continuing to investigate the death and are treating the case as a homicide, Ausnow said.
