Changing seasons mean landscape irrigation will be banned on weekdays in the city of Sacramento starting next week.
The rules, adopted in June, allow watering only on alternate days, based on address, during summer months. But when daylight savings time ends -- this year, that's on Sunday, Nov. 1 -- the rules allow watering only on Saturday or Sunday, based on address. Odd-numbered addresses may irrigate only on Saturdays, and even-numbered addresses only on Sundays.
The rules apply to both residential and commercial properties, and also govern when residents may wash their cars. An exception is allowed for newly planted landscaping, which may be watered daily for 21 days after planting.
The change in the seasons means residents and business owners who receive water from the city of Sacramento should reprogram or turn off their irrigation timers so that no watering occurs on weekdays.
Warnings will be issued for first violations. Second violations bring a $25 fine, waived upon completion of a water conservation class. Third and fourth violations are $100 and $500.
