A driver and motorcyclist were killed in a collision this morning on Highway 12 near Rio Vista, the California Highway Patrol has said.
The accident, reported about 5:20 a.m., may have occurred in heavy fog east of Highway 160, the CHP said in a news release.
According to a preliminary investigation, a burgundy-colored Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a black Yamaha motorcycle, the CHP said.
The crash propelled the motorcycle rider into the Chevy's cab. The Silverado left the roadway and came to rest in a field.
The driver of the pickup and the motorcyclist were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
The Silverado was registered in Rio Vista and the motorcycle was registered in Galt, according to the news release.
The accident closed Highway 12 until nearly 10 a.m. this morning, a CHP dispatcher said.
The victims have not been identified, pending an investigation and notification of next of kin, according to the Sacramento County coroner's office.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Sacramento CHP office at (916) 681-2300 or CHP dispatch at (916) 861-1300.

Do not copy and paste outside material into the comment box.
Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.
Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.
