Job vacancies advertised online in California dipped 1 percent in October, according to the Conference Board's monthly help-wanted online study.
Online ads fell to 362,400 last month compared with 366,100 in September.
Nationwide, advertised job vacancies declined 83,200 to 3.28 million last month. Officials said online labor demand has been relatively flat since the low point in April 2009, increasing a relatively modest 117,000, or slightly less than 20,000 a month since then.
The October decline reflected dips in labor demand across much of the nation.
The September and October numbers are a further indication that, thus far, the recovery is weak," said Gad Levanon, Conference Board senior economist.
Among all states, Michigan suffered the most last month, with nearly 11 unemployed people for every advertised job vacancy. California ranked fourth, with a 6.14-to-1 ratio.
In Sacramento, there were nearly six jobless people for every advertised vacancy. Detroit topped the list with a nearly 12-to-1 ratio.
