By now, I hope, you've checked out this week's cover story on Dungeness crab. But what wine to drink once you've boiled one of those bad boys? Here are three bottles that "Liquid Assets" recommends pairing with that crab meat:
Trefethen 2007 Dry Riesling
(13 percent alcohol, $19.99)
Take a sip of this crisp Napa Valley riesling and feel the flavors cut through the richness of crab. Flavors of stone fruit and minerals will only accentuate your seafood feast. Available at David Berkley Fine Wines & Specialty Foods (515 Pavilions Lane, Sacramento; 916-929-4422).
Scott Family Estate 2007 Arroyo Seco Chardonnay
(13.5 percent alcohol, $22.95)
We're not suggesting that you should dunk your crab in this chardonnay. But the butter flavors in this wine are a perfect complement for Dungeness crab, along with creamy notes and tropical fruit that'll make you think for a second that it's the Gilded Age. Couly-Dutheil 2007 Les Chanteaux Chinon Blanc
(13 percent alcohol, $25.99)
This wine is a favorite of Jeffrey DeVore, a very cool guy who now heads the wine program at David Berkley Fine Wines & Specialty Foods. The Loire Valley is home to this wine, and it'll perk up your palate with lovely floral and citrus flavors. Pair it with that Dungeness crab, and you've got a slam dunk of a meal.
