• Murad event: If you're a Murad customer or want to learn about the skin-care line, Total Beauty Experience is hosting an event from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the store, 2929 Arden Way. It is offering one-on-one, half-hour consultations with Murad advisers to discuss customers' skin-care concerns. It's also a good time to consider switching to lighter products for the summer and to ensure you're getting adequate sunscreen protections. • Shopping trip: There's still space left on the bus for the Sierra College Community Education's Beat the Heat: Shopping in the City trip set for Saturday, Aug. 1. The trip is an all-day event that takes shoppers from the Sierra campus to Union Square in San Francisco. There will be plenty of time to peruse stores and take advantage of summer sales and a look at the pre-fall fashions. Shoppers are on their own for lunch at their favorite restaurant or even take a cable car ride. The event is from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs $48. Sign up at www.sccommed.org.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
