Here are some upcoming events worth checking out:
A salon benefit: Pink Glamour Salon, 7846 Fair Oaks Blvd., has a catchy name and a commitment to its new community home in Carmichael. So, in the first of what the business hopes is many opportunities to lend a hand, Pink Glamour will host Celebration of Giving: Pink Champagne Social from noon to 5 p.m. next Sunday at the salon.
The benefactor? WEAVE's Suited for Success Program, which supplies gently used business attire for women who are survivors of domestic abuse and who are eager to re-enter the workforce. The salon is accepting donations of clothing, and most women receive more than $50 worth of attire, including accessories and shoes, plus interview advice and job tips.
Owner Angela Howard opened Pink Glamour Salon in June. She decided to join other local business owners to put together a benefit for WEAVE.
"We wanted to get to know our neighbors, so we came up with the idea to shop and mingle for a really great cause," Howard says. "We'll be a donation station for WEAVE."
The bonus for this event is that Pink Glamour also is taking donations of new, unwrapped toys for its Fill the Red Sled campaign. A car appropriately a red 1959 Thunderbird for the holiday season will deliver the toys to WEAVE's holiday gift boutique to be distributed to children in families affected by domestic violence.
During next Sunday's event, the salon will serve sparkling wine, hot chocolate and appetizers. There will be live music, raffles (dinner, karate classes, a vintage coat, jewelry, purses and, of course, hair products and accessories) and a chance to peruse handcrafted items from local vendors. That's just in case you're in the mood to start your holiday shopping. And actual services will be offered, including a nail art booth and Rockstar Style station where guests can have their hair styled. All proceeds go to WEAVE. For more information: (916) 944-4100.
Jewelry sale: The Senior Center at Sierra 2 and Cure Arthritis Now will host a jewelry sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the center, 2791 24th St. in Sacramento. They are seeking community support in the form of jewelry donations. Beads and bits will also be accepted for sale to crafters. You also can apply to participate as a vendor at the events. Questions? Call the center, (916) 455-6339 or Cure Arthritis Now, (916) 208-8700.
