For the second time in three months, Alan Handy has had to cancel a race at Placerville Speedway because of nearby fires. Handy, the promoter of the quarter-mile dirt oval n the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, was to host a Civil War Sprint Car Series event Saturday. But with the Placerville fairgrounds being used to stage crews battling the King fire just a few miles east on Highway 50, the race was moved to Petaluma Speedway.

NASCAR radically retooled its Chase for the Sprint Cup championship with a win-and-you’re-in format over the first 26 races, culminating tonight in Richmond.

NASCAR’s annual visit to Northern California is being pushed back one week next year. Instead of running the third weekend of June, Sonoma Raceway’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 will be held June 28.
