After sitting out most of two seasons, West Sacramento's Burney Lamar has a NASCAR ride. Lamar, 28, will return to the Nationwide Series in 2009 for his former sponsor, Dollar General, in the No. 32 Toyota Camry for Braun Racing. In 2006, Lamar drove 29 races for Kevin Harvick Inc. in the No. 77 Dollar General Chevrolet.
"Burney is a driver that has shown enormous potential, and we look forward to mentoring him and helping him reach that potential," owner Todd Braun said in making Thursday's announcement.
Lamar will share duties with Sprint Cup veteran Brian Vickers, who drove some Nationwide races the past two seasons in the No. 32. Vickers, the 2003 Nationwide Series champion, will drive 17 Nationwide races in 2009. Lamar will pilot the Toyota in the remaining 18.
"We're excited to reunite with Burney," Dollar General CEO Rick Dreiling said in the official announcement. "He has been a true friend to Dollar General since our relationship in 2006, and we're happy that Braun Racing provided a seat for him in 2009."
Lamar has 47 starts in the Nationwide Series, including 16 this season while splitting time between the No. 37 Ford and the No. 27 Ford for Baker Curb Racing and the No. 05 Ford for Day Enterprises Motorsports.
