Michael Jackson: Voices

Published: Friday, Jun. 26, 2009 - 12:00 am | Page 18A

"I saw the Jackson 5 in the early '70s at Hughes Stadium. It was a day concert. It was one of the concerts that everybody in Sacramento either wanted to go to, or went to. Everybody was given a folder with a picture on one side of Michael Jackson and the whole group on the other side. Mine is probably somewhere at my mom's house. It was one of the liveliest concerts ever in Sacramento. They had a limo, and I remember when they were leaving that women were chasing them, and a foot came out (of the limo) and kicked a woman out. It was one of the best concerts I've been to. If you had the means, you were at that concert."

JOHN DANIELS, 42 – Transportation company supervisor, Sacramento

"I remember loving his songs and roller-skating to them, especially 'Billie Jean.' I blasted it on the stereo and skated on a little tiny patio at home (near Burney, Shasta County) and at the big skating rink in Redding. Michael Jackson made great roller-skating music."

RITA HOSKING, 40 – Singer-songwriter, Davis

"I mourn him because the world lost a true legend. I celebrate his passing because we have been so cruel to a man so misunderstood, and he can now rest in peace and harmony in a place where he will finally be understood and loved without condition."

NOEH NAZARENO, 28 – Writer, Sacramento

"I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible. I am heartbroken for his children who I know were everything to him, and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me."

LISA MARIE PRESLEY – Jackson's former wife and daughter of Elvis Presley

"I knew Michael as a child and watched him grow over the years. Of all the thousands of entertainers I have worked with, Michael was THE most outstanding. Many have tried and will try to copy him, but his talent will never be matched."

DICK CLARK "American Bandstand" host

"I can't stop crying over the sad news. I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever. My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless."

MADONNA – Pop superstar

"Michael Jackson was my musical God. He made me believe that all things are possible, and through real and positive music. He can live forever! I love Michael Jackson. God Bless him."

WYCLEF JEAN – Rapper and former member of the Fugees

"Michael Jackson showed me that you can actually see the beat. He made the music come to life! He made me believe in magic."

SEAN 'DIDDY' COMBS – Rapper, record producer and entrepreneur

"Michael Jackson will live forever through the thing that he put all of his life energy into: his music. … Long live Michael Jackson."

NE-YO – R&B singer
