Bianca Garibay isn’t a natural goalie.
You would have hardly known it on Monday afternoon. The junior defender has filled in with the absence of a starting keeper for the Buhach Colony High girls soccer team.
With 11 big saves she gave the Thunder every opportunity to upset undefeated Turlock on Monday. A Kayla Gilkison volley into an open net was the only ball to best Garibray on the afternoon, but that proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Bulldog victory.
It was a much closer encounter than the team’s first meeting as BC (1-3-1 CCC) took advantage of four starters missing from the Turlock (4-0-1 CCC) lineup.
The Thunder forced four saves from goalkeeper Ashlen Kuntz, the best of which may have come on the game’s final sequence. Sophomore striker Elise Phonesavanh got in behind the Bulldog defense in the 80th minute, but was turned away by a sliding save from Kuntz.
Salm finished the afternoon with two goals and an assists, while Jovanna Salazar chipped in a pair of assists. Jessika McCleskey made three saves to earn her third league shutout.Pitman 2, Golden Valley 0
