A 25-year-old man was arrested this week after a pursuit by Merced County Sheriff’s Department deputies near south Merced.
Deputies learned of a vehicle chase involving two cars Sunday evening. Miguel Jeronimo Estrada, was believed to be pursuing a female driver from the Beachwood area to south Merced, according to Deputy Delray Shelton, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Estrada had been involved in an incident with the woman before the car chase, Shelton said, during which he pointed a gun at the woman and threatened to kill her.
Deputy Kao Ly responded to the call and spotted Estrada’s vehicle near V Street in south Merced.
Authorities said Estrada attempted to get away from Ly, driving through intersections with stop signs, but crashed into a fence at West Avenue and Ninth Street. Estrada tried to flee on foot but was captured, Shelton said.
Estrada was booked at the Merced County jail on suspicion of numerous crimes, including evading law enforcement, driving on a suspending license, DUI and making criminal threats. He was released after posting bail.
