Arlen Orchard, CEO and general manager of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, has announced a handful of executive appointments and changes in SMUD’s organizational structure.
The electric utility’s new appointees are: Frankie McDermott, chief generation and grid assets officer; Nicole Howard, chief customer officer; Paul Lau, chief grid strategy and operations officer; and Gary King, chief workforce officer.
McDermott is the former chief customer officer, and Howard moves into that post from director of customer services. Lau moves from his position as assistant general manager of power supply and grid operations. King will focus on workplace issues, including employee attraction/retention.
Orchard also created a new position of chief information officer and formed a national executive search team to fill that post.
Never miss a local story.
In a statement, Orchard said: “The utility business model continues to evolve into one that recognizes and takes advantages of new technologies that will benefit our community, such as distributed generation and demand response. The changes will better position SMUD to meet those challenges and deliver what our customers will demand in the future.”
