Covered California, which oversees the state’s health insurance marketplace, has established a special customer care unit and hotline to help enrollees transitioning from current market health insurance plans to coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
Consumers are encouraged to call the “Coverage Options Hotline” to get information about the federal law, coverage transitions, health plans/benefits, and options for the most affordable coverage.
The hotline number is (855) 857-0445.
Customer assistance teams housed at Covered California’s Rancho Cordova service center will available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The assistance team is made up of 25 representatives trained to handle a wide range of health insurance questions.
An estimated 900,000 Californians will be moved off policies that will be discontinued as of Dec. 31, because the plans don’t meet the minimum benefits of the Affordable Care Act.
