Sacramento-area gas prices continue to inch downward

The average retail price of gasoline in the Sacramento area fell another 3 cents over the past week to $4 per gallon, according to national gas price tracker GasBuddy.com.

Sacramento-area gas prices have fallen for a third consecutive week.

The average retail price of gasoline in the Sacramento area fell another 3 cents over the past week to $4 per gallon, according to national gas price tracker GasBuddy.com, which surveys more than 700 regional gas outlets daily.

Area prices have fallen 10.5 cents over the past three weeks. The current average is 7.1 cents higher than a year ago but 9.9 cents lower than last month.

Nationally, the average pump price rose a penny over the past week to $3.63 a gallon, up 2 cents from last month but 2.1 cents lower than the same time last year.

Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said “the summer driving season started “with little fanfare...and prices over Memorial Day weekend nationally ended up slightly under 2013 levels. Between now and mid-June, we should see additional relief at the pump, and by the end of June, the national average could decline another 10 cents per gallon.”
