The 13-story headquarters building of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System in West Sacramento has received an “Outstanding Building of the Year” award in a regional competition for corporate facilities.
The award is from the Building Owners and Managers Association, an international group representing owners and managers of various commercial property types. The BOMA cited the CalSTRS building from among commercial buildings in its Pacific Southwest region, which includes California, Nevada, Hawaii and the Phoenix area of Arizona.
Judging is based on a point system, with buildings evaluated in categories that include community involvement, site management and environmentally sustainable policies and procedures.
“We are very proud of our state-of-the-art facility and look forward to the international competition (later this month),” said CalSTRS CEO Jack Ehnes.
The CalSTRS’ building, completed in 2009, is “platinum” certified, the highest sustainability rating by the U.S. Green Building Council under its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.
