Citing studies showing a need for more nurses at medical facilities throughout California, Illinois-based Chamberlain College of Nursing said Thursday that classes will open next month at its first Golden State campus in Rancho Cordova.
Officials said spring semester classes will begin May 2 in nearly 30,000 square feet of space in an existing building at 10971 Sun Center Drive.
The local campus will be Chamberlain’s 20th nationwide. Chamberlain College of Nursing LLC is a part of DeVry Education Group Inc.
Chamberlain said its Rancho Cordova campus aims to make nursing education more accessible to students living in Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, Solano, San Joaquin, Sutter, Amador, Contra Costa, Calaveras and Nevada counties.
The campus will offer a bachelor of science degree in nursing in a program that officials said could be completed in as few as three years, with year-round study.
Chamberlain’s website says the school’s BSN program requires 126 total credit hours, including 70 hours in nursing-specific courses and 56 hours in liberal arts and science courses.
In a statement, Susan Groenwald, national president of Chamberlain, said: “Faculty and staff provide students with individualized support from the beginning of their academic careers through graduation, preparing each student with the strong foundation needed to succeed and to lead positive change in today’s health care environment.”
Chamberlain College of Nursing said it is accredited by the Chicago-based Higher Learning Commission. Chamberlain said its bachelor of science in nursing degree program and its post-graduate-level degree programs are accredited by the Washington, D.C.-based Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Chamberlain declined to disclose expected campus employment. It also declined to disclose student enrollment capacity at the local campus, saying only that Chamberlain currently has 25,000 student enrollments nationwide.
Open houses for prospective students will be held at the Rancho Cordova campus from 4 to 7 p.m. next Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 16.
