Gasoline prices are falling in the Sacramento area, a summertime development as rare as July rain in the region.
The average retail price of gasoline in the area fell 2.5 cents over the past week to $2.71 a gallon, national gas price tracker GasBuddy.com said Monday.
That’s 3.5 cents lower than last month and about 60 cents below the year-ago level.
Nationally, the average price dropped 3.4 cents last week to $2.23 a gallon down 15.7 cents from last month and 53.2 cents below the average price at this time last year.

Analysts said ample gas supplies and relatively low crude oil prices have so far trumped increased road travel nationwide.
