Roseville man sentenced to prison for bank fraud, mail theft

U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb today sentenced Darryl M. Everett, 47, to three-and-a-half years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release for multiple counts of bank fraud, mail theft and conspiracy to commit such offenses, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.

They donate the fruit to agencies like the Yolo County Food Bank and other organizations that feed the hungry. The couples met while working for the Obama presidential campaign in 2008. "When we finished the campaign, Barrack Obama sent out an email to the volunteers saying thank you for your help but don't go sit on the couch and do nothing. Go out and find something in the community to do," Gibbs recalled. "So, then Joe (Schwartz) called and said he and Linda learned of this organization in San Jose called Village Harvest and asked if we were interested in doing it."

"There was a time when Pam and I and Joe and Linda were the only four who would go out and we were scrambling to get anybody who would donate their fruit," Gibbs said. "We'd go out on a moment's notice and pick it and donate it." That was 2 1/2 years ago. Now the group has a least two harvests a week and a long list of volunteers from retired seniors, UC Davis students and the Gibbs grandchildren.

Obituary: Dwight Dawes' ship captured German sub in WWII

Dwight H. Dawes, a Navy officer on the USS Pillsbury, which captured a German submarine and vital enemy secrets during World War II, died Jan. 26. He was 92 and lived in Elk Grove.
