Kudos to: Monsignor Edward Kavanagh
Accomplishment: Recognized for his long pastorate on the occasion of his 90th birthday
Details: Kavanagh was honored with a party that included a potluck dinner, birthday cake, Irish music and a slide presentation that recalled his many decades at Sacramento’s St. Rose Catholic Parish. About 200 guests attended. Kavanagh, now retired, could not attend due to poor health, but the event was recorded for his viewing. He began serving at the parish in 1948.
Kudos to: Petco Foundation
Accomplishment: Donated $132,500 to the city of Sacramento’s Front Street Animal Shelter
Details: The grant will help support the shelter’s continued community outreach and adoption events. The shelter receives about 10,000 stray, lost or unwanted animals each year. With only 25 percent reclaimed by their owners, finding new homes is a priority for the shelter.
Kudos to: Los Rios Community College District
Accomplishment: Inducted into the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame
Details: The district was recognized for its value to people and the economy of the Sacramento region. In the last 20 years, enrollment has grown more than 56 percent to nearly 77,000 students who study at Los Rios’ colleges: American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City.
