Daffodils that have already made their showy appearance from bulbs beneath the soil will be swaying in the breeze Thursday before a quenching storm moves into the Sacramento area on Friday.
Northerly winds are forecast to increase Thursday as a cold system approaches the state, with gusts peaking at just over 20 mph in Sacramento. The afternoon high is expected to top out at around 70 degrees.
Rainfall will first be noticed in the far northern part of the state early Friday before precipitation spreads southward through the day. The chance of precipitation in the Sacramento region is quite good: 50 percent.
Moderate snow accumulation could is predicted in the Sierra Nevada, which could present problems for travelers on Interstate 80 and Highway 50.
