Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today, Wednesday, May 6, 2015:
A chance of rain postponed: Looks like any chance of rain in the Sacramento area won’t arrive until Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 78 degrees in Sacramento. A slight chance of showers is predicted for Thursday after 11 a.m.
Final tally: The Sacramento region ran hard against the clock and communities nationwide on Tuesday to raise more than $5 million for local nonprofits during the Big Day of Giving. When all the donating was completed Tuesday, Sacramento reached its goal with an unofficial $5.6 million. That placed it second among all communities in the nation. The race got off to a quick start, with donations hitting $1 million by 7:30 a.m. and doubling within three hours. By 3 p.m., the leaderboard surged past the more than $3 million raised last year, when Sacramento finished second in the country in total amount generated during the first 24-hour fundraising event. That success raised the bar for the second annual Big Day of Giving, which benefited 394 nonprofit groups last year. This year “Big DoG” organizers set their sights on raising $5 million for 529 local nonprofits and winning national bragging rights for most dollars donated.
