A pedestrian was killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision that shut down a busy Citrus Heights intersection for several hours.
Police responded about 4:30 p.m. to a report of a collision involving a truck and a pedestrian at Greenback Lane and Auburn Boulevard. They found the pedestrian unresponsive in the roadway. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel initiated lifesaving efforts, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Police Department news release.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
The primary cause of the collision is being investigated, but the initial investigation revealed that the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk during a no-walk cycle, the news release said. Police said neither speed, alcohol nor drugs appear to have been factors in the collision.
The pedestrian's name has not been released pending notification of family.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Citrus Heights Police Department at 916-727-5500.
