Clear skies for Old Sacramento fireworks

Skies are expected to be mostly clear for New Year’s Eve fireworks in Old Sacramento - and roads will be dry for late-night drive home.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a continuation of bone-dry winter weather as a high pressure system delivers warm, rain-free conditions through the coming week. Not much change in temperature is expected, forecaster say.

Looking far into the forecasting future, weather experts from the NWS note that computer models are hinting at a breakdown in the high pressure system early next week, bringing a chance of precipitation for interior Northern California.

The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Today: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Patchy fog after 4am. Patchy frost after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 37. Calm wind.

New Year’s day: Patchy fog before 10am. Patchy frost before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 64. Calm wind.

Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39. Calm wind.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Calm wind becoming north northwest around 5 mph in the morning.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 65.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 36.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 63.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 63.
