Officials are investigating the death of an ATV rider who was found a short distance from his vehicle that was stranded in a Sutter County ditch.
John William Cail, 42, of Robbins, was riding an all-terrain vehicle on private property north of Seymour Road on Sunday night when he drove into an irrigation ditch and was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered injury to the lower part of his legs.
Cail tried to drive and drag or push the ATV to level land, but was unsuccessful because the ditch walls were too steep, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Cail was found dead after he walked 25 yards away from his stranded ATV. The incident is under investigation and cause of death has not been determined.
