A water main broke in Land Park early Friday morning, partially flooding at least one street in the area.
The affected water line is on Land Park Drive at 11th Avenue, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Jan Gordon Boyer lives in the house where the water spill started. Police officers knocked on her door in the early hours of the morning after spotting a large amount of water seeping from Boyer’s garage. When Boyer opened the garage door, water began pouring out and flooded the front yard. Some water seeped into the basement, but the main house was spared.
Neither Boyer nor city officials know yet why the water main ruptured.
“It probably happened because our system is so old. It’s a 1928 house,” Boyer said.
City crews will likely be responsible for cleaning up the area, which became a massive mud pit, according to Boyer.
Despite the water spill, Boyer said, one of her main concerns was for her free-roaming pet rabbit, Bunny Bunny, who lives in the backyard. Boyer searched for hours until she found Bunny Bunny around 7 a.m.
