Cooler but still hot
After back-to-back 106-degree days, the maximum of 99 degrees forecast for today could feel absolutely cool…or maybe not. A high of 99 is still 7 degrees above average for mid-August in Sacramento. Thank goodness for air conditioning.
Elk Grove opens second house for homeless
The city of Elk Grove will host an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. for its second transitional house for the homeless. The 2,800-square-foot home at 9200 Meadow Grove Drive has seven bedrooms and four bathrooms. It is expected to house homeless families who need six to 12 months of aid. The city opened its first transitional home in April 2013.
Twin Rivers Unified to hold board meeting
Twin Rivers Unified School District will hold its regular school board meeting at 6 p.m. at the district office at 5115 Dudley Blvd., Bay A, in McClellan. The board will award a bid for a heating and air conditioning project at Futures High School and will vote on whether to expand preschool and day care programs to eight of its schools this school year.
Sacramento City Unified offers enrollment help
Sacramento City Unified School District staff will be at Sequoia Elementary School, 3333 Rosemont Drive in Sacramento, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to help parents enroll their children in district schools. Fall classes start Sept. 3. Parents also can enroll students at the district’s Enrollment Center, 5601 47th Ave., Sacramento. ▪ Grab a pair of headphones and enjoy silent disco dancing at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, 315 E. 14th St., Davis. Teen dancing is at 3 p.m., adults at 6 p.m.
▪ Crocker Art Museum will host “Baby Loves Art,” a visually stimulating gallery walk for parents and children up to 18 months of age from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Free with general admission.
