City Council meets on Thursday
The Sacramento City Council, meeting on Thursday this week rather than Tuesday, will discuss changes to the signage ordinance to allow for digital billboards at Golden 1 Center and other venues. Also on the agenda is a beer and wine permit for a Valero gas station in Land Park and a change to the city’s cardroom ordinance. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the City Hall council chamber, 915 I St.
Block party planned for commissioner visit
Sacramento Republic FC is hosting an MLS Block Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Sacramento to welcome Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber and the league delegation to the capital city. The event takes place at Firestone Public House, 1132 16th St., and de Vere’s Irish Public House, 1521 L St., which are next door to each other. Garber and Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott will lead a delegation of MLS executives visiting Sacramento to meet with Republic FC team officials and learn more about Sacramento’s bid for an MLS team. Identity theft seminar in Granite Bay
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office sponsors an Identity Theft Seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Granite Bay Library, 6475 Douglas Blvd. Topics scheduled to be discussed are reducing the risk of becoming a victim, safeguarding identity, learning how criminals obtain residents’ information and knowing the steps to take if you are a victim. Street fair launches festival
As a kickoff for the Festival of the Arts, Sacramento State’s College of Arts and Letters celebrates the second U-Create Street Fair from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Sacramento. The event showcases research and creative activities by the college’s faculty and students, and features live music, dance performances, student readings and more.
