Northbound I-5 closure near airport
Nighttime lane closures are planned as the California Department of Transportation continues work on northbound Interstate 5 at Sacramento International Airport to lengthen the auxiliary lane and exit ramp. Expect lane restrictions at Power Line Road on northbound I-5 near the airport from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to Caltrans. Crews plan to close the northbound I-5 exit to the airport from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, requiring motorists to follow a 6-mile detour. Motorists will continue northbound past the airport, over the Sacramento River and take exit 531. Then they will take Old River Road under the freeway to County Road 118, merging onto southbound I-5. They will continue south on I-5 to exit 528 to the airport. Caltrans advises motorists trying to make flights to add 30 to 35 minutes to their travel time and to expect delays. Caltrans will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, go to the Caltrans QuickMap at http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov.
