Placer County Sheriff’s crews and sonar experts continued searching Friday for the body of a University of Nevada, Reno football player who went missing on a Lake Tahoe paddle boarding trip a week ago.
Marc Ma, 20, was about 1.7 miles offshore with several football teammates when they fell off their boards as high winds caused 3- to 5-foot swells, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Ma was considered the most experienced paddle boarder in the group, but he was never seen again after he went back toward the shore to seek help.
Family and friends held a memorial service for Ma on Thursday evening in Reno.
The search for Ma’s body resumed earlier that day as sonar experts joined the effort. They continued searching Friday, according to the Sheriff’s Office, scanning the bottom of the lake and its 300-foot depths.
