Highway 89 work continues
The Highway 89 improvement project along Lake Tahoe’s west shore is on an overnight schedule through the peak summer season, the state Department of Transportation reported. The contractor, Road and Highway Builders, works from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the week and 10 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Mondays. That schedule is expected to continue until Aug. 15, according to Caltrans. Work is ongoing between Ward Creek and Sugar Pine Road on the south end, and from Pine Avenue to Cathedral Drive on the north end. The multiyear, $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City is upgrading stormwater drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening the shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway.
