A man suspected of a September kidnapping and assault in Nevada County was arrested Tuesday in the county’s Brunswick Basin area.
Daniel Gene Paradiso, 34, was booked on suspicion of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, according to a Nevada County Sheriff’s Office news release. He was taken into custody about 1 p.m. Tuesday by members of the sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force, the sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and the Grass Valley Police Department.
On Sept. 12, Paradiso is alleged to have pulled a gun on another man while the two were traveling together in a vehicle through the Cedar Ridge area. After a short distance, the victim, who was driving, jumped out of the vehicle while it was moving, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. The vehicle quickly became disabled and Paradiso eventually fled, officials said. The victim’s name has not been released.
Sheriff’s detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant for Paradiso as well as a search warrant for his residence in the southern part of the county. Following Paradiso’s arrest Tuesday, detectives located a handgun inside the vehicle he had occupied. Other evidence was found during the search of Paradiso’s residence, officials said.
He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, and officials said additional charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
