A free seminar on preventing identity theft will be offered by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office on April 6 in Auburn.
Identity theft is described as the fastest growing crime in the United States. Detectives Don Meier and Lakshan DeSilva have investigated numerous financial crimes and will talk about some of the problems law enforcement officers encounter in such cases, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
They will discuss how criminals obtain information and what people can do to safeguard their identity and avoid becoming a victim. The detectives also will outline steps people should take if they do become victims.
The seminar will be 6 to 8 p.m. at the Auburn Justice Center, 2929 Richardson Drive, Auburn.
