Q: On Dec. 22, 2013, a young man, Ruben Rivera, went missing and was later found dead in his car. What happened to him? Was it a homicide? Was anyone arrested?
A: The body of 20-year-old Ruben Rivera was found Jan. 15, 2014, in a vehicle in a field southwest of Baseline Road and Watt Avenue near Roseville.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department had announced Jan. 11 that Rivera had been missing from his North Sacramento home for three weeks. Sheriff’s officials said at the time that it was likely the vehicle and body had been at that location for a few weeks, saying the vehicle was obscured from view on a piece of property that was seldom used that time of year. Rivera was found in a 1992 Toyota Tacoma truck, the last vehicle in which he had been seen.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman said no arrests have been made, but detectives periodically receive tips and follow up on them. She said it is still an active, unsolved homicide investigation.
