Q: Can I get more information on the killing of Mark Montgomery in 1997?
Dominique, Louisville, Ky.
A: Mark Anthony Montgomery, 26, was killed in June 1997 during what authorities described as a petty dispute over a car parked in the family garage.
The car, police said, was just parked in a place someone didn’t want it, and an argument over moving the vehicle ended in a fatal stabbing.
According to a story in The Sacramento Bee, William Townsend attacked Montgomery, his girlfriend’s son-in-law, with a butcher knife outside the woman’s Meadowview home. Police said Montgomery died of a single stab wound to the heart.
Townsend was arrested at the girlfriend’s house in the 7300 block of Loma Verde Way.
According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, a jury found Townsend guilty of second-degree murder and he was sentenced in September 1998 to 15 years to life in prison. Now 47 years old, Townsend is incarcerated at Folsom State Prison.
