Caltrans said that crews removed a stuck big rig that had clogged southbound Highway 99 near downtown Sacramento, but the incident has left commute traffic a mess throughout much of city.
As of 5:20 p.m., Google Maps showed traffic backed up on the Capital City Freeway all the way back to the Interstate 80 split. Meanwhile, traffic was heavy on westbound Highway 50 heading into Sacramento, with the worst clog on the connector ramp to southbound 99.
The big rig, shown in a Caltrans photo, appeared to be transporting a mobile home or pre-fabricated house. It was lodged under the under the bridge, in the No. 5 lane, according to a Caltrans Twitter post.
Caltrans said the incident caused no damage to the Fifth Avenue overcrossing that connects Oak Park and Curtis Park.
