A trash fire in the abandoned Jade Apartments building at Seventh and K streets was discovered and extinguished Friday morning.
Sacramento Fire Department firefighters were called at 8:03 a.m. and extinguished the blaze about 8:30 after a lengthy search for the source, spokesman Captain Chris Harvey said.
Regional Transit light rail service had been stopped in the area but reopened before 9 a.m., Harvey said.
The building sits adjacent to Downtown Commons’ south end at 1118 K St., an area that has been well-trafficked over the last few days as people protesting Stephon Clark’s shooting have flooded the streets around Golden 1 Center.
Investigators were looking into whether the fire was tied to the protests Friday morning, Harvey said, among other details.
