An 88-year-old man died Saturday evening after being hit by a suspected drunk driver near Tahoe Park.
Kyung Rae Jung was hit by a car around 7 p.m. near Broadway and 53rd Street, according to Sacramento Police Department spokesman Sgt. Vance Chandler. Jung was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Nahum Valdez, 38, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury or death. He remained in Sacramento County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail ahead of a 1:30 p.m. court date on Tuesday.
Jung was hit a block away from Broadway Senior Center, where an employee confirmed he had been been a resident. An elderly woman living in nearby Greenfair Apartments suffered serious injuries after being struck about a year and a half ago in the same area, the employee said.
