The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim in Monday’s fatal car crash on Calvine Road as Margarita Millare, an Elk Grove resident.
Millare, 85, was riding in the right back seat of a 2008 Toyota being driven by a 57-year-old Elk Grove woman when they came to the intersection of Calvine and Vineyard roads at 1:48 p.m. The driver proceeded into the intersection as the light turned red and crashed the front of her car into the passenger side of a 2015 Honda legally turning left, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
The Toyota driver injured her wrist in the crash, while her male front seat passenger was taken to a local hospital after complaining of chest pain. Millare was believed to be the driver’s mother, CHP spokesman Officer Michael Bradley said, while the man up front was believed to be her father.
The Honda driver, a 35-year-old Sacramento woman, was also hospitalized with moderate injuries associated with abdominal pain, but the three children — ages 10, 7 and 2 — in her car were uninjured.
No one was arrested in the collision, and neither alcohol nor other drugs were suspected as factors. All people involved were wearing seat belts.
