Two Woodland transients were arrested Sunday for allegedly trying to sell a stolen racing bike, but another man got away, according to police.

Matthew Kuehnau, 25, was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and resisting arrest. He remained at the Yolo County jail on $20,000 bond.

Robert Nesbitt, 27, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, conspiracy and resisting arrest. He was being held at the Yolo County jail on $60,000 bond, as he also had a bench warrant for a DUI charge.

Police are still searching for the third suspect, who has not been identified. He was described as a Hispanic male, in his mid to late 20s, with an average build, wearing a dark shirt, dark short pants and red baseball style hat. He was last seen riding a black bike with white walled tires, going west on East Main Street near Pioneer Avenue.

On Nov. 2, Woodland police received a report that a $4,000 racing bicycle had been stolen from a bicycle rack attached to a vehicle. The owner of the bicycle, who was not identified by police, lived in another city, but was visiting a friend in Woodland at the time of the theft.

The owner had come out of his friend's home to find that the rack lock had been broken and the bicycle missing. A description of the bicycle was not available Monday.

On Nov. 9, with the help of the owner. Woodland police tracked the stolen bicycle to Craigslist.

The next day, police officers called the phone number listed for the posting, and spoke to a person who wanted to sell the bicycle. Undercover officers made arrangements to meet the seller at a local business parking lot.

Kuehnau was allegedly riding the stolen bicycle when he and two others, also on bikes, arrived for the meeting, according to police. After a short foot and bike chase, Kuehnau and Nesbitt were caught, and the stolen bicycle was retrieved, but a third suspect escaped.

Police do not believe that the other two bicycles which the suspects were riding were stolen.

If anyone has information on this crime or the third suspect, call Woodland Police at 530-661-7800 or 530-666-2411. Callers can remain anonymous.
