The California Highway Patrol has determined that speed and driver intoxication were the causes of a solo car accident on southbound Highway 99 early Saturday morning which claimed three lives, including a victim from Elk Grove.
Sean Leonguerrero, 24, of Merced was driving a 2010 Acura TSX between 80 mph and 100 mph near Calvine Rd. before the car drifted onto the right shoulder of the freeway and lost control. The car hit a chain-link fence and metal pole, which killed Leonguerrero and two passengers.
The Sacramento County Coroner released the names of the two deceased passengers on Sunday as Robert Anderson, 23, of Elk Grove and Michael Anderson, 23, of Atwater.
A CHP spokesperson said the driver was “clearly intoxicated” at the time of the accident.
All three men were pronounced dead at the scene around 12:40 a.m.
