W. Sac fire chief leaves for Sonoma County job

West Sacramento’s fire chief is leaving the city to become Sonoma County’s fire and emergency services director, city officials announced this week.
Al Terrell served more than five years as fire chief. His last day is Friday. He takes on the Sonoma County job Dec. 2, officials said.
West Sacramento is starting its search for a new chief and has tapped Rick Martinez, a former SacMetro fire chief and Sacramento city and county Office of Emergency Services director, for an interim role. Martinez’s first day in West Sacramento is Dec. 2.
Martinez served as chief of Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District for 10 years, was a chief deputy director at the state’s Office of Homeland Security and led federal disaster response teams in the aftemath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks at the World Trade Center and hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
