A woman in her 20s was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in Del Paso Heights, and Sacramento police are searching for the suspect.

Authorities responded to a call at 2:53 p.m. Thursday in the 3700 block of Balsam Street, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Officer Doug Morse said detectives are interested in speaking to a man who left the apartment building where the homicide occurred. Witnesses told officers he was driving a gold-colored, newer-model Saturn, and that a woman was in the car with him.

“All the parties involved appeared to have known each other,” Morse said, “but the specific circumstances that led up to the shooting is what detectives are trying to determine right now. And we don’t have a specific motive at this time. ... They’re interviewing everyone they contacted on the scene.”

Morse asked anyone with information related to the crime to call (916) 264-5471. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity at a later date.
