Police said a 35-year-old man pursued to his home in West Sacramento shot himself in the head.

The man was transported to the hospital where he was undergoing surgery early Monday morning.

The incident began about 10:15 p.m. Sunday when officers tried to stop the man for a traffic violation. Instead of pulling over, the driver fled in his pickup to his home in the 800 block of Beardsley Drive.

The pursuit of the man took under three minutes. Police stated in a press release that when the man ran into his home he may have had a gun in his hand.

A short time after he entered the home, another resident of the house exited and told police that the man had shot himself.

Officers entered the residence to find him with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene.

Investigators from the police department and the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office responded to conduct an investigation, according to the press release.
