A 14-year-old boy died when the pickup being driven by his brother slid into an irrigation ditch in Yolo County.
Tyler Uslan, of Clarksburg, was a passenger in a Dodge Ram pickup about 10:45 a.m. Sunday being driven northbound by his 16-year-old brother on Z Line Road near Teal Road when the vehicle came to an abrupt stop on the gravel road at the edge of a canal.
A California Highway Patrol officer said the soil could not support the weight of the pickup. The vehicle slid into the shallow canal, leaning to one side.
It is unclear whether the younger brother tried to exit on his own or fell out of the truck, according to the CHP. The teen became pinned under the vehicle in two or three feet of water.
He died at the scene. The Yolo County Coroner’s office lists his apparent cause of death as drowning.
