An Elk Grove man was killed when his car slammed into a pickup truck parked in the road south of Yuba City after an earlier crash.
The California Highway Patrol reported that at about 5:15 a.m. Thursday two vehicles were involved in a non-injury collision on northbound Highway 99 south of Oswald Road. The two vehicles remained in the road, partially blocking the left turn lane and the fast lane of Highway 99.
Both of the drivers got out of their vehicles and were standing on the roadway when, at 5:21 a.m. Thursday, the 37-year-old Elk Grove man driving a 2005 Honda Civic approached the earlier crash site.
The Honda driver, traveling north on Highway 99, saw the two stopped vehicles, and hit his brakes before crashing into one of the stationary vehicles broadside.
The Honda driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Both crashes remain under investigation and the name of the deceased man was not released, pending notification of relatives.
