A Davis woman was arrested Thursday after police grabbed her infant away from her in fear that she might harm the child.
Police were contacted about 4:30 p.m. Thursday concerning a distraught mother who was reportedly threatening to hurt herself or her baby boy. The mother, identified as Sin Yu Shih, 29, was said to be armed with a knife, according to a police press release.
When officers responded to the 1600 block of Drew Circle they found Shih and the baby in a bedroom. Officers said they tried to speak with Shih, but the woman ignored them.
Fearing for the safety of the child, officers entered the bedroom and grabbed the infant from the mother. A knife, within Shih’s reach, was confiscated by officers.
Shih was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, battery, domestic violence-battery and child endangerment. The baby was released to the care of his father.
