A North Highlands man convicted of murder last month for shooting and killing his estranged wife has been sentenced to prison for 60 years to life.

Daniel Marlan Weddle, 50, received the term Friday from Sacramento Superior Court Judge Cheryl Chun Meegan for the Dec. 1, 2011, killing of the defendant's wife, Margaret Weddle, 46.

Weddle, who had moved out of the apartment he shared with his wife in the 3600 block of Bellinger Court in North Highlands, shot her when he came back for a visit and she served him with divorce papers.

He also was convicted and sentenced for an assault on his wife's roommate for pointing a gun at her.
