A baby boy injured in a crash on Interstate 80 last week has died, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Raiden Steven Saechao, 9-months old, of Lincoln, died from his injuries Sunday, a CHP press release stated.

He had been in critical condition since Dec. 17 after the vehicle in which he was riding was involved in a collision on Interstate 80 just east of Highway 65 in Placer County.

The California Highway Patrol responded about 8 a.m. Dec. 17 to a collision involving five vehicles on westbound I-80. Preliminary investigation indicates an initial collision occurred between a blue Ford Explorer and a white Toyota Scion, followed by additional collisions with three other vehicles -- a Ford F150, a Chevy Express, and a Peterbilt truck and trailer - according to a CHP news release.

Emergency personnel arrived and determined that the infant, who was a passenger in the Scion, suffered major injuries. The child was given CPR at the scene and transported to UC Davis Medical Center.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, but the CHP reported that neither alcohol nor drugs was a factor.
