The driver of a vehicle that had been reported speeding Monday evening on Douglas Road in Rancho Cordova died in a collision that injured two other drivers.
The crash occurred about 5:55 p.m. on Douglas between Timberland Drive and Rancho Cordova Parkway. A Nissan coupe was reported traveling eastbound at speeds well in excess of the posted speed limits, according to a Rancho Cordova Police Department news release. The front of the Nissan collided with the rear of an eastbound Toyota sedan, and the Toyota traveled off the roadway, striking a power pole.
The Nissan then crossed into the westbound lane where it collided head on with a westbound Chevy, according to police.
The driver of the Nissan, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other drivers were treated at local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
Based on preliminary findings, police said the cause of the collision appears to be speed-related, but the crash remains under investigation.
